Creative Loafing Best of the Bay

What It's About

In 2014, Jobsite first took over the Jaeb Theater for a co-production of Return to the Forbidden Planet with the Straz Center. 10 summers later they take on the show they’ve been waiting for as part of their 25th Anniversary Season! Jobsite fans must know this cult-hit rock musical is a no-brainer for the company who has consistently taken home Creative Loafing Best of the Bay Awards like “Best Theater Rockers,” “Best Musical,” and “Best Local Production” for scorchers like Forbidden PlanetHedwig and the Angry InchPericlesSILENCE! The MusicalLIZZIE, and others.

The antici … pation is over for Jobsite’s spin on the OG kitschy rock ‘n’ roll sci-fi gothic musical! Straightlaced Brad Majors and Janet Weiss, stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter as they look for a phone to call for help. As their innocence (and more) is stripped away, they encounter a castle-full of wild characters while the not-so-good Dr. and his motley crew unveil his latest creation — a Charles Atlas-inspired beefcake named Rocky. Give yourself over to absolute pleasure at this iconic landmark of musical theater and — now over 50 years old – enduring part of popular culture.

The live musical The Rocky Horror Show predates both the 1975 film adaptation and the audience participation phenomena that followed. The Rocky Horror Show is not 100% the same as The Rocky Horror Picture Show – dialogue, songs, as well as the general timing of things will be different than what folks may be accustomed to if their only experience is a shadowcast working in front of the movie.

Jobsite heartily encourages fans to dress up and come ready for a great time! We will sell a kit with approved props for our production that also includes bonus items like show stickers and buttons. Read our full FAQ to help prepare you for the do’s and don’ts.

Please Note

Any audience member disrupting the performance at the expense of overall audience enjoyment or the show’s integrity will be asked to leave and will not get a refund.

Critic Reviews

This is one of those productions that they’ll be talking about years from now … I don’t know of any recent production anywhere with so much palatable pleasure and energy. Yes, it’s that good … one of the most enjoyable evenings of theater in recent memory, coming at a time when we need it so desperately … this is one glorious production. – Peter Nason, BroadwayWorld

you will want to see it again and again. Not in recent memory have I had such a great time in a live theatre setting ... one of the most blistering, expertly paced two-hours I have experienced in some time. – Drew Eberhard, BroadwayWorld

We were there and it was a great show!! All great actors especially Dr. Frank-n-Furter (Clay Christopher). – Glenn Litchfield

Such a great show tonight!!!!! 🥰🥰🥰 – Christy barba

What a night! You guys were outstanding – Ginny Miranda

Such talent and so fun!! – Lorinda Gamson

Awesome show! – Mike Gocklin

Great show from a fantastic cast! Saw the movie for the first time 35 years ago, and have seen many theater performances of it since. This one was by far the best. Everyone’s vocals and comedic talent was amazing. That said, Clay Christopher as Frank-N-Furter had the perfect voice and campy humor to stay true to the role, but also make it his own. It’s rare to love a performance as much as the original icon‘s who did it, but I did. – Brenda Renick

Fantastic show! – Donna Marie

IT. WAS. ASTOUNDING! – Steven Bosco-Hammer

It was AWESOME! – Paul Cavalli

Dammit, Janet, Jobsite has done it again. This production of RHS has the comedic timing, the chops, the PIPES! Hot patootie, bless my soul, I really love that house control … No, hear me out, I LOVED that they set rules out for audience participation. It made what could have been a chaotic and distracting experience into an immersive and fun one. It was a positive environment that gave structure for audience input but allowed the actors the freedom to bring their own color to their roles. Forever thankful to Jobsite for these choices. It is no exaggeration to say that this was my favorite production of RHS in years. Not to be missed💋 – @ellysooh

From Silence! The Musical to Lizzie and now Rocky Horror, @jobsitetheater doesn’t mess around with their productions. Jess and I were blown away by the talent we saw on the stage; there wasn’t a weak link in the whole ensemble. Please go see this show if you’re in Florida!! The Phantoms were hilarious with their physical comedy. Columbia was the perfect level of obnoxious with the voice of an angel. Rocky was out here doing acrobatics and being dopey and endearing. Frank had the deepest voice and a delicious demeanor. Crim was SO good with his retorts to my call outs were fire; he reminded me of Stephen Fry. Brad and Janet were the perfect squares until they weren’t (*wink). Magenta was nefarious and sang with some serious bravado. And we all know I loved Riff and all his gorgeous weirdness. – @ashleyhorrorpicturetour

Saw it Friday night. Really enjoyed it! – Kyle Gilliland

WOW! Just got home from the Sunday, July 14th matinee, and can’t say HOW MUCH FUN and HOW AMAZING this show was! ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING! Gorgeous singing voices, impeccable comedic timing, and many fun surprises that will delight every Rocky Horror fan. Thank you again for an unforgettable afternoon! – Traci Canaan

I’ve seen a lot of productions, and this is really good, if I was local I’d be there every chance I could – Fred Olderr

I’ve heard of the Rocky Horror  Picture Show most of my life, but in all my 82 years had yet to see it. Since attending your performance, I’ve watched my library’s DVD American Version & now the UK version, and I have to say… I enjoyed the live performance MORE! It was a pleasure to see so many talented actors, singers, dancers and I laughed. Thank you for a rare treat. – Susan Taylor

Maybe the only show that fits Jobsite Theater more than Rocky Horror is Hedwig, and that happened to great success (twice!) Others (everyone else) have tried to emulate the success of the off Broadway blood bath rock musical in Tampa, but the fact of the matter is this: Jobsite has developed a brand. they know how to do this. And they do it damn well. And to try to argue with those sales? You’d look dumb. Of course, I don’t really have to tell you to go see Rocky Horror Show at Jobsite Theater. You have already decided if you’re going to see it, because it’s selling out faster than a Taylor Swift concert (Okay, not THAT fast. But check the numbers- it’s insane) But also, it seems to be the selective one or two shows a year that everyone will see. Why can’t we get that kind of support on the shows that we know need it the most? Giles Davies was busting his whole ass showing us a whole new side of his masterful work in The Smuggler and he deserved a far stronger turnout. But times is hard. The dollar does not go as far as it used to. I don’t have to TELL YOU what Rocky Horror is about. You have your own baggage attached to the show. It helped you come into your queerness. Or maybe it was the first thing you did as a teenager that made you truly feel like you were rebelling. Or maybe you didn’t experience it for the first time until well into adulthood, where its timelessness and post-modern views on sex and repression far outweighed its problematic frays. Maybe you only know the Time Warp. Maybe you are a true virgin. Wear white. I don’t have to SING THE PRAISES of this cast, because their pedigrees speak for themselves. How lucky are we to have Matthew McGee, Noa Friedman, Heather Krueger, and Colleen Cherry all in the same show?? I don’t have to tell you how brilliant Jeremy Douglass’ work is on this show because you already know he’s a genius. I swear, every time he does something it manages to be 5% better than the last project he’s taken on. I cannot believe how lucky we are to have him here in the Bay Area. Maybe I DO need to tell you how wonderful Alexander Witzigman-Jones’ choreography is. A marriage of razor sharp precision and organized chaos coalescing in nothing short of a musical theatre orgy. Yes. I used the word orgy. And maybe David Jenkins can eat his words and just admit he likes musical theatre. Or at the very least admit that through having to produce it, he’s very, very good at directing musicals. I don’t have to tell you to see this show. The audiences are showing up in droves. But I think you should join the party. Fantasy free you. – Nick Hoop

Bravo! We thoroughly enjoyed the show last night! – Susan Sasser

Saw it last night. It was so much fun! Loved it. The whole cast was perfect. – Lori Wagner

This really is a great production. I have seen many over the last 40 years and this rivals any of them. David Jenkins got a real powerhouse team together and made this 50 year old show powerful, relevant and fun! – Hugo Morley

I really enjoyed this show – you all did fabulous … – Erin Taylor

You guys are killer!! Genuinely though … incredible experience – Sean Collins

This entire cast is utterly fantastic but Dr FNF?? Just wow. QUEEN. You rival the original Tim Curry and totally blew me away! – Caroline Jorgenson

Don’t miss out and NOT see this show!!! You will NOT be disappointed so long as you go see it! – John Behr
