Ok, so it was only a matter of time before I made some nasty statement like the above headline in regard to CreLo’s new pet-name for their Best of the Bay Awards. They have to know this, too.
The even funnier part of this is that we just gave away our own Jobby Awards, and while discussing what a Jobby actually would look like (taken: moon man, fairy, bald guy, gramophone etc), Shawn Paonessa chimes in that as a child a Jobby was a poop, as in “doing a Jobby.”
So I guess it’s all circular.
Circular like our own Steve Garland and Ami Sallee Corley taking both the Jobby and Critic’s Choice Loafies for Best Actor and Actress, respectively.
If you hadn’t already read, Jobsite also took Critic’s Choice for Best Theater Company and our Katrina Stevenson took Best Costume Designer. Our UberMamaBear, Judy Lisi at TBPAC, took Best Artistic Director and giving us residency is cited among her many credits.
There are a lot of other folks we’re pretty proud of in regards to these awards. Sticks of Fire took Reader’s Poll for Best Local Blog, and Pushing Rope (again, with the poop metaphors!) took Critic’s Choice for Best Local Political Blog. Congrats also to Car Bomb Driver for picking up Critic’s Choice for Best Punk Band, and to both Tampa Bay Brewing Company and Fly Bar for getting some props in the Food and Drink categories.
Finally, to our counterparts at Gorilla Theater, Hat Trick Theater, Stageworks and American Stage. All of these companies got some love in one location or another, and that’s a good sign for all of us. There’s a lot of theater in the area, a lot of different styles and flavors and a lot to support.
If you were at the event last night and want to participate in an open thread about them, head over to Pushing Rope.

Congratulations!!
Pushing Rope is a slang term for drunk sex. Not a poop joke. Good job with the show and congratulations on the wins.
This is what’s wrong with me, it sounds like maybe someone taking a poop. Like laying cable.
