In-person callbacks for El Maleficio de la Mariposa are now scheduled for Sa., Feb. 3, from 2-5pm.
We are looking for 6 versatile multi-disciplinary performers who can sing, “move,” create and inhabit multiple characters with both clarity and alacrity, and who ideally possess strong non-traditional theater skill sets like puppetry and aerial circus arts.
This show is performed with an English text and song lyrics in Lorca’s original Spanish poetry, bilingual performers are greatly appreciated but not required.
Maleficio is being developed and presented in Jobsite’s unique style as displayed in Jobsite’s ALICE and Shockheaded Peter, meaning we demand a team of artists who are both self-driven and can give and take with grace as part of an intense, fast-paced collaboration as we devise and workshop on our feet. The work is strenuous, but the joy of creating an all-new work is unparalleled.
The performance itself will work to defy easy categorization: not exactly a play or musical but 75-minutes of spectacle-fueled storytelling to delight all comers. All roles are open, one of the six tracks is specifically for a performer with strong aerial skills.
Jobsite is an equal opportunity employer, and we desire the folks on our stages and behind the scenes to be representative of this wonderful community we serve in every way. We urge members of historically marginalized and/or under-represented communities to apply.
To be considered for a Maleficio callback, email auditions AT jobsitetheater DOT org with:
- A video link (no attachments, please) to an audition including a 1-minute monologue or poem and 2 short song selections (up-tempo and ballad). Feel free to include any relevant footage of special skills at the end.
- A a single PDF file containing both headshot and resume (no jpg/doc combinations, please) and make sure that the filename is your name (eg, Viola-Davis.pdf, adittimittal.pdf etc). Please ensure to include your vocal range and list any relevant special skills.
All materials are due no later than Fri., Jan., 19. Performers needed for in-person callbacks on Sat., Feb. 3 will be notified in writing no later than Fri., Jan. 26. Due to the unique nature of this production, virtual callbacks are not available.
Performers must be available for all rehearsals beginning Apr. 16, Tu.-Th. evenings 6:30-10:30pm and Sa.-Su. afternoons 1-5pm. The production schedule requires performers be available for We.-Sa. 7:30pm shows and Sa.-Su. 2pm matinees. We are unable to accommodate standing rehearsal conflicts (eg, cannot rehearse Sa. afternoons or Tu. nights) or a conflict with any performance, confirmed or tentative.
All roles are paid $425 a week (bi-weekly) for 8 total weeks, and a profit share is available should the show cover expenses (never a guarantee). These roles are intended for artists in the Tampa Bay Area, Jobsite cannot offer travel, housing, or per diem. All shows and rehearsals take place at the Straz Center in downtown Tampa, where there is no on-site free parking for workers.
