We anticipate significant traffic and parking challenges on the south side of the Straz Center on Saturday, Jan. 29 due to the Gasparilla Pirate Fest at Curtis Hixon Park from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the road closures associated with the Gasparilla Parade of Pirates. The parade will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will end at Cass Street and Ashley Drive. Click here to visit the City of Tampa’s website for more information about the parade route and road closure schedule.
Please be aware that the Poe Garage will be closed from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and guests will be unable to enter or exit during that time. The City of Tampa cannot guarantee the exact time that the garage will reopen following the parade.
As always, we recommend arriving early for your event and exploring all available parking options in advance. Click here to visit the parking page on the Straz website for current parking options and information.
Please note that the Poe Garage has launched a new payment system that requires guests to enter their license plate number and pay the parking fee at the pay station prior to attending their event. Cameras will recognize the plate number and raise the gate automatically upon exit.
To avoid traffic and parking congestion on the south side of the Straz Center, we recommend approaching the Straz from the north side of the campus via Doyle Carlton (if coming down 275 use exit 45A downtown then take the Doyle Carlton exit) and then the following parking options:
Anchor Garage next to the Barrymore Hotel parking lot (entrance on Fortune Street).
Tampa Bay Times Garage directly across the street from the Anchor Apartments on Fortune Street. Event parking rates at the garage will vary depending on Straz and nearby city events.
Royal Regional Lot at 1200 N. Tampa Street (6-minute walk to The Straz). This inexpensive option is a short, six-minute walk to the Straz Center. Click here to visit the parking page on the Straz website for more information, including our recommended pedestrian route.
