What It's About
Is it even Halloween if Jobsite doesn’t have something spooktacular on stage? Recent years have seen us run down a list of horror masterpieces line Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Dracula, and Misery – and we can’t wait to give Frankenstein our own special spark of life.
Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered creature (Paul J. Potenza) is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker (Giles Davies). Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal. Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, neglect, cognitive development, and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic of both the sci-fi and gothic genres. Nick Dear’s electrifying adaptation emphasizes intense human emotion and the complexities of human relationships over shock and gore, however audiences should still be advised that aspects of the story remain unsettling over 200 years after publication.
Frankenstein, based on the novel by Mary Shelley, premiered at London’s National Theatre in 2011 starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Lee Miller. Potenza and Davies were last seen together in Dracula.
Critic Reviews
this is unlike anything Jobsite has produced, and maybe their strongest and most moving piece in recent years … a slow-burn, salt-in-the- wound, gripping, tour-de-force that will leave you speechless. – BroadwayWorld
The entire team, under the direction of David Jenkins, brings this play from the National Theater London to the stage of the smallest theater in the Straz in Tampa with confidence and all the way under your skin. Bravi! – Kulturspiegel

We went [to the first preview] and it was fabulous! – Melinda Mendolusky
Everyone did a great job. “The creature” was OUTSTANDING! The energy he put into this character!!!BRAVO!
This is amazing! Run don’t walk gang! My God this cast is amazing! Thank you all so much for such excellent work
Wow! Amazing performances! I foresee a sold out run! – Lorinda Toole Gamson
Paul Potenza’s best ever performance! Wow! The creature in Frankenstein, bravo Paul and the entire cast! Giles Davies and David Jenkins, it was quite something! – Susanne Nielsen
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed Frankenstein! All actors were terrific, but the standout performance was most certainly Frankenstein’s monster! His acting was remarkably passionate! Highly recommend
Outstanding production! Not to be missed!!! – Jeanne Marchak
The show … and Paul … were extraordinary! – Hal Freedman
This really was a spectacular performance! I’ve been telling everyone I know about it. Each actor was stellar but my friends and I were overwhelmed by the actor portraying the monster – he must have been exhausted post show! The halting, strained speech, the contracted, tightly held body positions…..it was all so palpable. I just can’t articulate how much we thoroughly enjoyed the performance. It left me with sort of melancholy though, to know how accurate the theme is today, and wondering if the human race will ever learn to treat each other with love and respect. Kudos to each and every one involved- it was fabulous. – Stephanie Maruca
I attended the show last night and just like all of Jobsite’s productions I’ve attended over the past 20 years or so, I LOVED IT. – Ryan Kriss
It was great, the actor playing Frankenstein’s monster was fantastic! – Serena Lorien
We saw it last night… In a word: WOW!! – Margaret Nolan Mays
I was at the opening night performance and it was amazing! Highly recommend! – Ron Langdon
This show was incredible! So happy I was able to see it!
Saw it on Wednesday, it was a wonderful watch and all of you acted phenomenally
Absolutely amazing performances. – Willi Rudowsky
Absolutely terrific show!!! – Cassie Smalls
They did a tremendous job of acting especially the CREATURE! – Allen Benzschawel
Exceptional acting! They got the struggle of the Creature right! Shelley’s primary theme – the desire for love and connection and the pain of being rejected that gives birth to violence and hate. – Stephen Morton
Just saw it today, and it was phenomenal! Paul Potenza was stellar, truly Broadway caliber, as has been noted, but the entire cast was strong. Staging, sound design, costumes, etc.: all top-notch. Highly recommend! – Lorin Oberweger
Entire cast is top notch! It was a fantastic show. Paul’s acting and physicality was mesmerizing and masterful! He had us at hello. Bravo!
I have been a theatre nerd since I was little. Have seen just about every Bway show over the past 45 years. Potenza’s performance was one I will never forget. It ranks in my Top 10 of all time. – Mary F. Hughes-Dado
Oh my God it was brilliant. Just omg. And Paul. But why was I crying? Stunning…so wonderfully produced and directed. You are amazing. Thank you – Elissa Getto
This is surely one of the most faithful adaptations of Mary Shelley’s novel. It preserves the book’s themes of isolation an injustice. It is visceral and intense. Some comments overheard in the theatre: “I will remember this play for the rest of my life” and “He is SUCH a good actor” … As always, Jobsite’s current production is worth a view.” – @ellysooh
On Saturday night, I went to see Frankenstein and was blown away! All of the cast were amazing, but Frankenstein’s monster stole the show. He gave so much of himself to that role, it was incredible to watch. That will be a performance I will not forget for a very long time. Bravo! – Sam Brightman
Awesome performance! The entire cast was excellent. Paul Potenza was outstanding as the Creature. – Fred DiPinto
This is an outstanding show. So glad I was able to come. – Tonita Melendez
Absolutely riveting performance!
Just saw this today. Amazing production and cast, there were moments where I was almost moved to tears this was so powerful. Mr. Potetza is absolutely a force of nature.
We saw Paul Potenza a.k.a. The Creature in Frankenstein on Friday and this was unquestionably the most compelling performance I have ever seen. Paul BECAME the Creature in all senses of the word. He engaged the audience from the first moment he was “born” onstage and made us experience every feeling as the Creature evolved. I am still reliving this performance and hope to see Paul again and again. BRAVO!
