Jobsite offers another tantalizing Halloween treat: Howard Brenton's literate and darkly funny Bloody Poetry, a gorgeous retelling of the famous "Haunted Summer" that features characters such as Mary Shelley, Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley in a time where poets were as revered and reviled as today's rock stars. Full of sex, death and ghost stories.

 

 

A Girl's Guide to Chaos

Being single, meeting new people, dating again, safe sex, breaking up, supporting despondent friends, then repeating the whole agonizing cycle. It’s the relationship hell of the modern woman, and the adult comedy A Girl's Guide to Chaos explores that hell with biting wit, sarcasm, and humor. The frustrations of being single run rampant. Some characters staunchly rely on themselves, others hide behind their loneliness, and others desperately cling to a boyfriend, because, darn it, finding a new one is the pits!

 

 

American Buffalo

For down-and-out junk dealer Don, life goes from unlucky to unbearable when he discovers the rare buffalo head nickel he just sold is worth 10 times as much as he let it go for. Refusing to let himself be out-swindled, he enlists a young protégé, Bobby, in a scheme to steal the coin back. But their plans are suddenly altered by the intrusion of Teach a disturbingly aggressive would-be thief who badgers Don into cutting him in on the heist – a decision that carries explosive consequences for everyone involved in American Buffalo.

 

 

The Mineola Twins

Both a farce and a satire, The Mineola Twins is a wickedly witty comic book come to life. It begins during the "I Like Ike" era 1950s and finds Myrna working at a small town diner, while Myra is working her way through the second string of the high school football team.  The play flashes forward to 1969 - Nixon is in the White House, protesters are in the streets, and the relationship between Myrna and Myra is no better. Myrna's dreams of a utopian home life have been shattered by a failing marriage, a round of electro-shock therapy and a son whose politics are dangerously similar to Myra's. Meanwhile, Myra is on the lam following a botched bank robbery attempt. By the time the twins reach the late 1980s, Myrna has become the nation's most influential, conservative talk show host, while Myra works for women's reproductive rights.

 

 

Delusion of Darkness

Imagine fog. Fog so thick the locals have to keep the windows closed to keep their rooms from fogging up. Imagine a seedy waterfront dive. Scarred bar-top. Cheap drinks.  Wobbly stools. Now imagine Murphy, a secretive writer and master of conspiracy, holding court among psychotics and mutants in an ultra-dark comedy that weaves crazily along the lines between eccentricity and madness. Desire and depravity. Dreams and nightmares. Imagine what you can't imagine. That, in a nutshell, is Jobsite's final show of the 2003-04 season – Delusion of Darkness.
