8.30.10 – Jobsite Thanks You for 2009–10

As of yesterday's final curtain of Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, we at Jobsite have once again managed a load of "firsts" and "bests" from start to finish of the 2009–10 season. We'd like to quickly share the highlights with you:

We added performances to the schedules of four out of our six mainstage plays; a first for us. We hope to soon play each show for a minimum of four weeks, so this is a great start. The more we can keep our artists working the better.

We once again smashed mainstage attendance and overall gross sales records for the season. Over 1,000 more people came to a Jobsite show this season than any other season in the past. Gross sales were up 2% from our last record. We have not raised ticket prices in five years (as a matter of fact, we've even lowered the price of our student ticket), so this is an apples to apples comparison.

Contributions that came in during the 2009–10 season were almost 300% higher than they have ever been in any other year. This is perhaps our proudest point, and one that is going to allow us to continue growing and move more towards paying our artists a living wage.

We had our Off-Broadway debut with Pericles at HERE Arts Space in New York, a major accomplishment for any company. This is only a start. We hope to make taking new work to New York a point of emphasis for us.

In addition to our six-play mainstage season and the remount of Pericles, we helped our artists put together over a dozen side projects that ranged from staged readings of their new work (Chapel Perilous) to cabaret nights (Emilia Sargent: Last Call for Jazz) to small rock musicals performed as a benefit (tick, tick ... BOOM!) to fully-produced late night plays (Cowboy v Samurai).

You can still help!

If you'd still like to lend a hand there are a few things you can do:

  • Buy season tickets. Truly, it's the best way to help on top of being a huge bargain with numerous benefits for you. Einstein's Dreams is just a few weeks away!
  • Vote for us online in the Creative Loafing Best of the Bay Awards. Please consider us for Best Theater Company, Best Performance, Best Actor and Best Actress. POLLS CLOSE ON 8/31!
  • You may still make a donation to Jobsite for the coming season. Every single dollar is meaningful to us.
  • Tell your friends about us. Or maybe bring them with you the next time you come see us. If you are a season ticket holder, one of your benefits is the ability to buy additional tickets at a discount.

On behalf of the board of directors and ensemble of Jobsite Theater, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This has been a great year, and we look forward to many, many more.

Best Regards,
David M. Jenkins
Producing Artistic Director
